Obese patients may not be getting the full dose of drug injected into their buttocks. The needle can't reach beyond the fat.Fatter buttocks are causing many drug injections to miss their mark, requiring longer needles to reach the muscle, researchers say.The study, which was presented this week to the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, shows many women are not getting the full dose of the drug.Standard-sized needles failed to reach the buttock muscle in 23 out of 25 women whose rears were examined after what was supposed to be an intramuscular injection of a drug. Two-thirds of the 50 patients in the study did not receive the full drug dose, which instead lodged in the fat tissue of their buttocks, say researchers from the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Dublin.Besides patients receiving less than the correct drug dosage, medications that remain lodged in fat can cause infection or irritation, says researcher Dr Victoria Chan."There is no question that obesity is the underlying cause. We have identified a new problem related, in part, to the increasing amount of fat in patients' buttocks," Chan says."The amount of fat tissue overlying the muscles exceeds the length of the needles commonly used for these injections," she says. Many drugs are administered by injections into the buttocks, including some painkillers, vaccines, contraceptives and anti-nausea drugs.The buttocks are a good place for intramuscular injections because there are relatively few major blood vessels, nerves and bones that a needle can damage. This is especially the case with the upper, outer quadrant of the buttocks.Plentiful smaller blood vessels found in muscle carry the drug to the rest of the body.Fat tissue, meanwhile, contains relatively few blood vessels.The 25 men and 25 women studied at the Irish hospital were aged 21 to 87.

i*m so bored living here...its ...its ...numbingly nothing..people eat and drink with contentment...plenty of rainfall...plenty of sun...G-ds little triangle of perfection...but...where*s the angst?.... where*s the fight?.... the only fight we as a community seem to really have is the government and the medicos desire to utilize this northern rivers district as a large and uncontained free mental institution....!!!. bi-polar?..anti-social?..just can*t plain cope?...b assured the recommendation from the Dept. of Social Security will b *move north young man*...with the aside that...*people r more tolerant in byron..u*ll b rite mate*..and..they R right.... in this utopia the shops open when the shopkeeper awakens.(?)..everything is closed by 9pm.

If it was legal ,the mainly hippy populace would put up road blocks to keep out any interloper (excepting those described above) desiring to share in this land of milk and honey. the mainly ex-sannyasin community has matured into wealthy selfish land barons determined to b the ONLY wealthy selfish land barons in the region... i miss the streets of amsterdam..at least...i think i do....i*ve lived here so long im like a potato...maybe i am also so spoiled by the daily indulgence of fat sameyness and fresh crisp air ,that, if i was plucked from my warm earthy bed of north coast dreams the horr-roar of the real world would drive me , hair wrenching, back to my ozzie dreamtime...
